We assess new capabilities not only by what is technologically possible, but also by what is legally permissible and ethically responsible.

5. We Preserve Human Responsibility
Technology can enhance human capabilities. It must not replace human responsibility.
Where our systems use automation, autonomy or artificial intelligence, appropriate human judgement, oversight and accountability remain fundamental.
Our approach is guided by established principles for responsible technology, including legality, accountability, traceability, reliability and controllability.
The appropriate level of human involvement is considered from the very beginning of the development process and depends on the individual system, its function and its operational context.
6. We Take Responsibility for What We Develop
Defence technology requires a particularly high level of responsibility.
We protect sensitive information and technologies, maintain high quality and security standards, and communicate known risks and limitations responsibly.
We encourage critical thinking and take ethical concerns seriously. Difficult questions should be addressed openly rather than avoided.
